How to hate Michael Koryta
It's not easy learning to hate Michael Koryta. He's a bright young guy I met in my workshop. His first novel Tonight I Said Goodbye was an Edgar finalist though, and that helps. I read it on the plane ride home and damn if it isn't really good... so that helps too. His first sequel is coming out in a couple weeks... yeah, now I'm starting to feel it... jealousy and hate and jetlag. Not that I especially want to hate him, or even be in competition with him, but... you know. I do and I am. Unfortunately he's intelligent, well read and friendly. He was helpful in workshop. He's also young though, and that's where I had my real breakthrough in learning to hate Michael Koryta. It was at the mid-week party. We discovered we were both staying near each other, a bit north of St. Pete's. Somehow we got on rental cars and he said "I got totally screwed on my car rental rate because I'm not yet twenty-five."

And that, my friends, is how you can come to hate Michael Koryta.

It's set in Cleveland? I grew up in Cleveland and outside of a Harlan Ellison novel I don't remember ever reading a book set there. Must read this. (Please don't hate me too.)

Sure - you were just miming being a cranky, jealous old writer. Good job, too.
